20 percent less CO2-Emission and 20 percent higher energy efficiency by 2020 – the roll-out of the environmental initiative ECCO2 has begun. Knorr-Bremse is setting climate protection targets interlinking ecological with economical aspects across the group.
ECCO2 stands for “Efficient Cut of CO2” and implies the Italian exclamation “here!”, which encourages participation. Showing the way here is the 20/20/20 formula, which equates to the EU Climate targets approved in 2008 and aims for an increase of energy efficiency by 20 percent across the group in its first stage. This in turn means a reduction of the CO2-emission by 20 percent, which is to be achieved by 2020. ECCO2 is supplemented by a supporting energy management.
With this initiative the company contributes to a responsible handling of resources in times of raw material shortage and climate changes on one hand; on the other Knorr-Bremse itself profits from an economical raw material usage, as those prices should rise significantly in the medium to long term.
First stock takes have produced a savings potential of several million Euros depending on the investment level and the development of the fair market value.
